Stone Soup: Works by Eustace Mamba

Eustace Mamba is a Philadelphia-based multidisciplinary artist whose work explores the complexities of identity, culture, and history, with a focus on the Black experience in America. Using collage, painting, and sewn fabric inspired by street photography from Philadelphia and New York, Mamba creates layered narratives that address issues of recognition, representation, and belonging. His art reflects on both historical and contemporary struggles for visibility, while expanding perspectives on the richness and diversity of Black life.

Katie Kaplan is a Philadelphia-based multidisciplinary artist whose work spans printmaking,
sculpture, textiles, video, and installation. In this exhibition, Kaplan explores the environment, focusing particularly on vibrating landscapes and close-up examinations of fungi and foliage. The exhibition also features her screen printed print and poster series, which are deeply tied to environmental, queer and gender activism. These works serve as both personal and political expressions, addressing themes of identity, visibility, and social justice. Through her art, Kaplan seeks to create connections between the personal, the political, and the ecological, producing pieces that resonate with both the natural world and the ongoing struggles for equality and inclusion.

In this exhibition, Smith fosters a dialogue around race, history, and identity while pushing the boundaries of material and form in contemporary art.
