Vidas Suspendidas/Suspended Lives: Narrative Self Portraits by Latinx Artists from Puentes de Salud

October 11 – November 18, 2019

Vidas Suspendidas/Suspended Lives highlights the brave and personal journeys of nine Latinx artists living in the United States. In partnership with Puentes de Salud, a nonprofit that promotes wellness for Philadelphia’s Latinx immigrant population through health, education, and community programs, PMG is hosting a powerful exhibition of sculptures in our outdoor labyrinth. This project was created and facilitated by Nora Hiriart Litz, Director for Art and Culture at Puentes de Salud.

Every migrant’s story is a mixture of fear, hope, pain, memory, and emotion in the journey to, and ongoing life in the United States. In Vidas Suspendidas, Latinx artists from across Philadelphia created life-size self-portraits to celebrate the diversity and complexity of immigrant stories. The self-portraits will be displayed throughout the Magic Gardens site, where visitors can listen to the stories of each participant and the meaning behind the work by scanning a QR code located at each station.

Philadelphia’s Magic Gardens, Nora Hiriart Litz, and the artists at Puentes de Salud invite you to experience Vidas Suspendidas/Suspended Lives during a pay-what-you-wish opening reception on Friday, October 11, 2019, from 6:00 – 9:00 PM.

Listen to each story told by the artists in this exhibition.
