Interweave: Fabric Works by Folk Artists & Isaiah Zagar

Interweave: Fabric Works by Folk Artists & Isaiah Zagar
May 5 – July 9, 2017
OPENING RECEPTION: Friday, May 5, 2017; 6:00 – 9:00 PM

Philadelphia’s Magic Gardens presents a dynamic look at the complex connection between Isaiah Zagar and international artisans in Interweave: Fabric Works by Folk Artists & Isaiah Zagar. This exhibition highlights Zagar’s extensive collection of vibrant textiles from around the globe alongside his personal paintings, photographs, and relics that served as the inspiration for these fabric pieces. The finished textiles created by the folk artists take the energy of Zagar’s original artworks and reinterpret them – giving them new meaning and life.

Interweave includes blankets, rugs, and carpets from Mexico to India.  The collaborations between Zagar and these folk artists are visual conversations that harmoniously encapsulate different cultures, ideologies, and traditions. The partnerships develop a deep connection between Zagar and the folk artists, stimulating new ideas and igniting new possibilities.  Shown together here for the first time, it becomes apparent that the works and artists can be even stronger together than when they are apart.

Philadelphia’s Magic Gardens and Isaiah Zagar welcome you to share this collection during a pay-what-you-wish opening reception on Friday, May 5, 2017, from 6:00 – 9:00 PM. Enjoy some light fare and a complimentary glass of wine from Barefoot Wine and Bubbly.®
