Spend a relaxing evening under the stars and twinkle lights at Philadelphia’s Magic Gardens’ September Twilight in the Gardens!

This month catch a live performance by the Nick Salcido Quartet. Nick Salcido is an electric and upright bassist in Philadelphia.  He is active in the city’s vibrant jazz community and can be heard performing at venues such as Time, Heritage, Chris’ Jazz Cafe, and SOUTH.  In addition to his schedule as a sideman, Salcido leads a trio every Thursday evening at Sassafras in Old City. For this Twilight performance he’ll be joined by Chris Stevens on the cornet, Ben Karp on guitar, and Matt Scarano on drums.

September’s Teaching Artist is Layla May Ehsan, a multidisciplinary artist and educator raised in Chicago and currently based in West Philly. A lifelong fascination with beasts and monsters informs her illustrative work: mythology, hybridity and the dream world are lenses through which she considers larger questions around femininity, biracial identity and the body.

For this Twilight event, Ehsan will teach attendees monoprinting – a magical process combining the immediate satisfaction of drawing with the atmospheric wonder of printmaking. In this activity, guests can take inspiration from the expressive drawings of Isaiah Zagar to generate their own loose and lively drawings. Through the monoprinting process, these drawings will be transferred onto fabric — from there, they’ll be turned into stunning banners to hang from the wall!

Visitors also have the chance to learn more about PMG through fun, casual mini-tours of the space and can check out Ebb Tide: Sculptures by Tasha Lewis in our galleries.

Twilight in the Gardens is a BYOBBS event (Bring Your Own Booze, Blanket, and Snacks), and guests are encouraged to relax and picnic in the space.
