Event Description

This year, the Free Library’s kids’ selection for One Book One Philadelphia is“How to Grow a Family Tree,” written by Bea Birdsong and illustrated by Jasu Hu. In this book, caring friends and neighbors become strong branches on a girl’s family tree. The idea of family becomes wide and welcoming. This premise is at the heart of Family Jams. Everyone is welcome. We come together to make art. Along the way, we make connections, laughter, and memories. Like family. Come turn a white bandana into a colorful keepsake with stamps and fabric ink.

Learn how many kinds of family were included in the Magic Gardens by creator Isaiah Zagar during free tours of the fully mosaicked basement at 12:30, 1:30, 2:30, and 3:30 pm. Basement tours will include readings of “How to Grow a Family Tree” at 12:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m.

PECO Family Jams is the Magic Gardens’ family-oriented program held on the second Sunday of every month between noon and 4:00 p.m. Crafts and basement tours are included with regular admission to PMG. Purchase your regular admission tickets in advance
