Event Description
Today, we are excited to partner with Asian Arts Initiative, a community-based arts center dedicated to advancing racial and social change through the arts. AAI invites us to create etegami in celebration of the arrival of spring. Etegami are postcard-sized watercolor and sumi ink painting, paired with a thoughtful phrase meant to be shared with loved ones. This art form embraces imperfection, making it accessible to all. It was invented by Kunio Koike as a rejection of the rigid rules of traditional calligraphy. As Koike famously said, “Awkwardness has charm.”
Discover similarities between etegami and the mosaics at the Magic Gardens during free tours of our fully mosaicked basement at 12:30, 1:30, 2:30, and 3:30 p.m.
PECO Family Jams are PMG’s family-oriented programs held on the second Sunday of every month between noon and 4:00 p.m. Crafts and basement tours are included with regular admission to PMG. Purchase your regular admission tickets in advance.
