Take advantage of the warm summer nights at Philadelphia’s Magic Gardens’ Twilight in the Gardens!
Hoochi Coochi is a hand-clapping, soul-stirring, indie blues band from Dover, DE. Members Fatz Hawkins and Danielle Johnson have been hitting the music scene hard together since 2015 and were later joined by longtime drummer Chelsea Grant and bassist Mark Reed. Mixing genres like blues, soul, and a touch of indie, Hoochi Coochi is sure to get everyone rocking, rolling, and singing about love.
Teaching Artist Emily Coleman joins us from Butcher’s Sew Shop, a local sewing studio which provides classes and workshops for all ages. Coleman is an artist, designer and craftsperson who learned at a young age to sew and embroider. She received a BFA in printmaking at Maryland Institute College of Art in 2012.
At this Twilight Coleman will be teaching participants the art of sashiko, or “little stabs” – a form of stitching from Japan. The white thread on indigo blue fabric is said to resemble snow falling around old farmhouses, and will make a great work of art to hang in your home!
Visitors also have the chance to learn more about PMG through fun, casual mini-tours of the space and can check out Allá Abajo/ Down Below: A Reaction to Our Times by Ornella Ridone in our galleries.
Twilight in the Gardens is a BYOBBS event (Bring Your Own Booze, Blanket, and Snacks), and guests are encouraged to relax and picnic in the space.
