Artist Amir Khadar bridges the gap between fantasy and reality in otherworldly creations. In “After the Flowers Pass,” Khadar uses textiles and mixed media to construct a world that rebuilds the relationship between humans and the environment. These works place figures and spirits in a time after the fall of consumerism. In this world, harmony with nature and ancestral knowledge take precedence over modern day advancements and social hierarchies. Khadar’s figures connect with the remains of the previous world to build a new existence that undoes the harm of colonialism.
Khadar is a Sierra Leonean-American multidisciplinary artist, designer, and educator from Minneapolis, Minnesota, currently based in Philadelphia. Their work centers on decolonization by bridging the gap between fantasy and reality. Khadar has nurtured their passion for social change initiatives by collaborating with justice organizations such as Thousand Currents, Initiative Sankofa d’Afrique de l’Ouest, and Forward Together.
