Philadelphia, PA, USA

From his fascination with the history of the decaying industrial sites around Wolverhampton, and the many historical sites of his youth in southern England, Michael was long ago drawn to brick as his artistic medium.

Bricks express his love of solidity, structure, and history while they give him a malleable yet durable way to build his utilitarian and semi utilitarian abstract sculptures.  Michael’s brick art works range from small carved individual bricks to poetic arches and columns set in bucolic landscapes.

His work always connects with its site to invite us to sit on it, walk in it, peer through it, to somehow interact with brick art. Michael’s work has a striking beauty to it that belies the simplicity of the small carved clay bricks from which it is made. (Image and information from michaelmorgan.net)

In 2011 Philadelphia-based artist Michael Morgan created “3 Worlds,” the brick seats in the sculpture garden. Morgan uses the brick in his work as both a sculptural medium and building unit. Morgan has created work throughout the U.S. and his native U.K.
