Irma Blanco

Ceramics
Santa Maria Atzompa, Oaxaca

Irma Blanco (born 1959) creates whimsical female figurines that often incorporate animals and other creatures. She uses a clay appliqué technique involving small decorations layered onto larger pieces.  She learned this technique from her mother, celebrated sculptor Teodora Blanco (1928-1980). Teodora’s work is also found in international art collections.

PMG and the Zagars continue to visit Irma and bring new pieces back to incorporate into Philadelphia’s Magic Gardens.
