Santa Maria Atzompa, Oaxaca
Irma Blanco (1959-2023) created whimsical female figurines that often incorporated animals and other creatures. She used a clay appliqué technique involving small decorations layered onto larger pieces. She learned this technique from her mother, celebrated sculptor Teodora Blanco (1928-1980). Teodora’s work is also found in international art collections.
