February 2008
Dear Mosaic Lovers,

Join us this spring as we open our doors from Tuesday through Sunday starting in March. There are many exciting events going on around the city and the nation these days, and the Magic Gardens is more connected than ever. Our very own Julia Zagar is teaching a lecture series at the Philadelphia Museum of Art to accompany the Frida Kahlo exhibit opening February 20th. Son Jeremiah Zagar is about to premier his documentary film, In a Dream, about his parents and Isaiah's many mosaics, at South by Southwest Film Festival. And here within the Gardens we will host our very first Open Mic Night in just a few weeks. Read on to learn more about all of these happenings, and to find an exciting offer at the end of this email.

Julia Zagar Opens Frida's Closet

Julia Zagar has steeped herself in Mexican folk art for more than forty years, as a student, a collector, and an art dealer. She brings all of that and more to a special lecture series at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, where she shares her knowledge and experience of Mexican culture and Frida Kahlo's life and work. The final two lectures focus on the art and culture of Oaxaca, and the recent opening of Frida Kahlo's long-locked closet. This much-anticipated final lecture, "Frida's Closet," will share with Philadelphia audiences the discoveries found in this hidden place.

Final lectures: Saturday, February 23rd from 9:30-11:45 am; Thursday February 28th from 9:30-10:30 am
