Community Efforts

PMG participates in many activities that serve the surrounding neighborhood and also specific communities in Philadelphia.

Schools can take advantage of unique art-making experiences with our Tile & Grout: Bonding Community program, a multi-part program designed to teach participants about the work of Isaiah Zagar and his mosaic techniques.  It guides students through each step of the process of creating a mosaic mural, from conception to completion.  These projects also serve to beautify our schools and provide the students with a sense of ownership and accomplishment.

PMG also takes art opportunities outside our mosaicked walls with ART/GAGE, our community outreach program.  ART/GAGE is an initiative by PMG to provide low cost or free arts experiences within local communities. Through ART/GAGE, PMG collaborates with other organizations and businesses to provide visual and performance arts at neighborhood events, such as street fairs and festivals. ART/GAGE offers interactive experiences outside of the museum and classroom to enGAGE a diverse audience with ART, furthering PMG’s mission to inspire creativity and community engagement. Participants can create individual works, assist in larger group projects, interact with other community members, and simply enjoy public events in new ways.

Our Exhibitions program also frequently features artworks by other community organizations, such as the Philadelphia Development Disabilities Corporation, the Philadelphia Refugee Mental Health Collaborative, and the City of Philadelphia Mural Arts Program, just to name a few.
