Virtual Event: PECO Family Jams Day of the Dead Sugar Skulls

Sunday, October 11th 2020

12:00 PM - 4:00 PM

PMG’s creator Isaiah Zagar includes hundreds of Mexican folk art objects throughout Philadelphia’s Magic Gardens. Día de Muertos, or Day of the Dead, is a significant celebration in Central and Southern Mexico that begins on the final day of October. In preparation, families honor their departed loved ones by decorating sugar skulls. Teaching artist Ivonne Pinto-Garcia shows us how to use colored frosting to decorate our own sugar skulls at home. Visitors will receive a FREE Craft Kit including an undecorated sugar skull, while supplies last.

A limited number of FREE tickets to visit Philadelphia’s Magic Gardens on October 11 are available here. Tickets may also be purchased here.

If you’re not able to join us at PMG, visit this page on October 11 for an instructional video that lets you craft along at home. Then join us for a virtual tour of some of the Mexican folk art that is featured in this unique art environment.

PECO Family Jams are PMG’s one-of-a-kind, family-oriented programs, featured every second Sunday of the month between NOON and 4:00 PM.
