12:00 PM - 4:00 PM
PMG’s creator Isaiah Zagar includes hundreds of Mexican folk art objects throughout Philadelphia’s Magic Gardens. Día de Muertos, or Day of the Dead, is a significant celebration in Central and Southern Mexico that begins on the final day of October. In preparation, families honor their departed loved ones by decorating sugar skulls. Teaching artist Ivonne Pinto-Garcia shows us how to use royal icing to decorate our own sugar skulls at home. Visitors will receive a FREE Craft Kit including an undecorated sugar skull, while supplies last.
FREE tickets to visit Philadelphia’s Magic Gardens on October 11 have all been claimed. Tickets may still be purchased here.
If you’re not able to join us at PMG, you can make your own sugar skull using a kit, and watch our instructional video that shows you how to decorate it at home (available via the links above on October 11 at Noon). Then join us for a virtual tour of some of the Mexican folk art that is featured in this unique art environment.
PECO Family Jams are PMG’s one-of-a-kind, family-oriented programs, featured every second Sunday of the month between NOON and 4:00 PM.
