PECO Family Jams: Taller de Superheroes

Saturday, June 12th 2021 - Sunday, June 13th 2021

11:00 AM - 4:00 PM

For Puentes de Salud’s Taller de Superhéroes (Superheroes Workshop), migrant mothers and fathers worked in tandem with their children to explore memories of their places of origin. Local artists Antonio Arroniz, Ari Gutiérrez, and LEMUS led the families in examining their personal histories, family legends, native iconography, and Mexican Pre-Hispanic myths. Together, each family created a superhero costume, poetry, and animation rich in personal symbolism.

On Saturday and Sunday, June 12 and 13, participants from Taller de Superhéroes will be on site to share their stories and unveil their creations. Visitors to Philadelphia’s Magic Gardens are invited to have conversations with the creative family teams, and to take home a Craft Kit which will help you build myths, symbolism, and design your own superheroes based on your own family stories.
