Event Description

In 1998, Philadelphia’s Magic Gardens creator Isaiah Zagar planted corn, flowers, and a small pine tree in the empty lots next to his studio. While Isaiah transformed the space into a fully mosaicked art environment with winding pathways, bridges, tunnels, stairways, and courtyards, the tree remained… and grew. Now, at over 60 feet tall, the “little” pine tree towers over nearby buildings, providing shade to PMG’s visitors and habitat for local birds and squirrels. Every year, the tree also produces hundreds of pine cones which we gather and bake (melting the sap smells wonderful and turns the cones shiny). This month, visitors are invited to enjoy the harvest by creating ornaments, autumnal decorations, or a few woodland friends using pine cones.

PECO Family Jams are PMG’s one-of-a-kind, family-oriented programs, featured every second Sunday of the month between NOON and 4:00 PM. Visitors will receive a FREE Craft Kit with admission while supplies last. No reservations are required for PECO Family Jams, but admission tickets should be purchased in advance here.
