Philadelphia’s New Year’s Day Mummers Parade is one of the oldest folk festivals in the United States. This year, Golden Sunrise NYA, the last of the city’s fancy-dress clubs, asked PMG creator Isaiah Zagar to collaborate on a costume that would capture his mosaics and the spirit of our art environment. The resulting 75-pound suit — made out of bicycle wheels, tiles, fabric, and feathers – was worn by club captain Michael Carwile as they paraded down Broad Street. He and other mummers will join us today with costumes and hats to help us construct our own one-of-a-kind wearable creations.
Learn more about Isaiah and how he worked with the Mummers during family-friendly tours at 1:00, 2:30, and 3:30 PM.
PECO Family Jams are PMG’s one-of-a-kind, family-oriented programs, featured every second Sunday of the month between NOON and 4:00 PM. All PECO Family Jams workshops and activities are FREE with admission.
