Join us for the final Twilight in the Gardens of the year!

Bring a blanket, snacks, and drinks to picnic in our space while you catch a performance by pianist & singer Black Buttafly. Her music is influenced by Soul, Gospel, and Jazz and is sure to move you! Over at our craft tables join artist Emily Smith to make your own monster magnet! Use a variety of materials, such as air-dry clay, pom-poms, and googly eyes to make a creepy creation just in time for Halloween. Visitors also have the chance to learn more about Philadelphia’s Magic Gardens through fun, casual self-guided tours of our mosaicked basement, and can check out “Wildest Dreams: Works by Zeinab Diomande” in our galleries.

Space is limited and we recommend purchasing ahead of time. This is the last Twilight in the Gardens event of the 2023 season!

ABOUT THE MUSICIAN:
Kayla Childs, also known as “Black Buttafly”, is a 26 year old New Jersey native hailing from New Brunswick. Her musical roots are in Gospel, Jazz, and Soul music with influences ranging from Patrice Rushen, Herbie Hancock, Stevie Wonder, J Dilla, and Ahmad Jamal. She is a rising pianist, songwriter, and producer attending Rutgers University pursuing her degree in Jazz Performance and Music Technology while currently living and playing in Philadelphia, PA. 

ABOUT THE TEACHING ARTIST:
Emily Smith is the Executive Director of Philadelphia’s Magic Gardens and she received her BFA in Painting, Drawing, and Sculpture from the School of Visual Arts in New York City. She has shown in numerous solo and group exhibitions, as well as being a visiting critic and guest curator.  On the rare occasion she is not at the Gardens, she spends her time in her studio with her dog, Toadie. Smith works with a wide range of materials and is currently on a glitter and sticker bender. She is also very excited for Halloween.

OCTOBER SCHEDULE:
7:00 – 10:00 p.m. – Create monster magnets with Emily Smith
7:00 – 10:00 p.m. – Self-Guided Tours of PMG’s mosaicked basement
8:00 – 9:00 p.m.  – Live Performance by Black Buttafly
