Famous for his elaborate visionary environment, Luna Parc, in northern New Jersey, madcap artist Ricky Boscarino will recreate a world of his own by filling PMG’s galleries with original artworks and installations. His inspiration to create is derived from the medieval science of Alchemy, where magicians attempted to transform any object into gold. Boscarino’s New Alchemy manipulates common materials, such as bottles, tile, clay, and found objects, and transforms them into grandiose works of art. This exhibition explores a truly unique mind and highlights the infinite possibilities of how art can be defined.
Boscarino was raised by a family of artists in Piscataway, New Jersey. His artistic journey truly began in 1989 when he purchased a worn-down home in the woods in Sandyston, New Jersey. The outsider artist embellished his home inside and out with everything from mosaics and paintings to bowling balls and taxidermy animals. Luna Parc is currently eleven stories tall with hidden passageways and themed rooms, and Boscarino continues to build new additions.
Boscarino’s home has become a personal museum of his unique life experiences, his worldly travels, and his passion for art and collecting. He also founded the Luna Parc Atelier Foundation, a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit, whose mission is to foster critical thinking through making art from clay, paint, and found objects.
Philadelphia’s Magic Gardens and Ricky of Luna Parc invite you to an opening reception on Friday, September 9, 2016, from 6:00 – 9:00 PM. Light fare will be served, and wine will be provided by Barefoot Wine®.
