August Twilight in the Gardens

Friday, August 25th 2017

7:00 PM - 10:00 PM

$15/Students and Seniors

For this special Twilight in the Gardens, Drum Like A Lady, an all-female drum collective, will fill the space with their eclectic mix of drums from a traditional drum kit to hand drums from all over the world. During the first hour four drummers, including Drum Like A Lady founder LaTreice V Branson, will be placed strategically throughout the gardens.  Explore the glittering sculpture labyrinth while discovering each hidden musician! In the second hour, Branson and the drummers will come to the main stage for a thrilling interactive performance, inviting audience participation. This performance will lead into a 20-minute jam session where audience members are encouraged to join in with their own instruments or provided instruments.

During the cacophony make sure to join Teaching Artist Sarah Wedge to make mini security blankets out of fabric, burlap, and felt!

Twilights are designed so that each visitor can decide their own experience. For a more casual evening, pick your favorite spot and set up picnic-style to experience the live music, great people, and surreal environment. If you are feeling adventurous make sure to explore PMG and partake in all of the activities with other culturally driven attendees.

Visitors also have the chance to learn more about PMG through fun, casual mini-tours of the space and can view the temporary exhibition hanging in our galleries. All Twilight in the Gardens evenings are BYOBBS (Bring Your Own Booze, Blanket, and Snacks)!

Tickets are available August 11 via our website or by phone (215) 733-0390.

PERFORMERS Drum Like A Lady is an organization whose mission is to provide a safe space for women of all ages, ethnic backgrounds, religious beliefs, and lifestyles to express their uniqueness through collective drumming, dance, music education, and mental health advocacy. Founded in 2014 by musician and educator LaTreice V Branson in response to the discriminatory and sexist practices observed in the drumming community, Drum Like A Lady encourages women and young girls alike to see the drum as a healing instrument, a community tool, and one of the most powerful and effective methods of non-verbal communication known to humanity. Through the Drum Like A Lady jam sessions, musicians at all skills levels are invited to share in the creation and celebration of a new soundscape – rooted in improvisation and inspired by the beauty of femininity.
