Are you an artist looking for a space to display your work? Are you a local business owner on South Street that is interested in having artwork displayed in your place of business? Arts on South is looking for artists for the Gallery Program as well as the Storefront Program!
The Gallery Program loans unrented storefronts to artists for 4 month terms to display their artwork and hold Fourth Friday gallery receptions! Applications are due on March 15, 2012 for the April 15-August 15, 2012 term. Apply Here!The Storefront Program seeks to beautify South Street through partnering artist collectives with local businesses. The artist are given the opportunity to show their artwork for two month terms and participate in two Fourth Friday events. De Pueblo a Pueblo (From Town to Town) is an eight-week celebration in Spring 2012 that will honor our local Mexican community by promoting greater understanding of traditional arts, language, and history of our southern neighbors. The citywide festival will connect this growing population and their customs with a broader Philadelphia audience.

PMG will feature Laurence Salzmann's incredible photography of La Sierra del Norte, a small village in Puebla, during the entire length of the festival (April 27 through June 16). PMG creator Isaiah Zagar frequently paints portraits of his family members, the community, and himself onto the many tiles in his mosaic murals. Sometimes Zagar depicts these people with multiple arms, heads, or even the ability to fly!
Drop by PMG's Back Gallery to make your own 3-dimensional Pop-Up Portrait featuring a realistic or imaginative portrait from noon - 4:00 PM, and learn more about Zagar's portraits in our kid-friendly tour at 2:00 PM. much of the inspiration for her lively works within the clay itself: a material with both a lengthy history and a myriad of contemporary applications. Fragmented Reflections represents a blend of her present-day influences, paired with experiences acquired from her upbringing in Haifa, Israel.Over 30 colorful mosaics will be featured in Fragmented Reflections. Stop by the FREE opening reception to meet Golan on Saturday, February 18, 2012, from 6:00PM - 9:00PM.

These guided interpretive tours take visitors through the Magic Gardens main site and nearby mosaiced properties. Topics include Zagar's mosaic techniques and influences, the materials used in the mosaics (with a particular focus on tiles and global folk art), the narratives behind his iconography and images, and the history of South Street and Philadelphia's Magic Gardens. Tours last approximately one hour.

Philadelphia's Magic Gardens is currently operating in its Fall/Winter schedule: Sunday through Thursday 11:00am - 5:00pm, and Friday through Saturday 11:00am - 8:00pm. During the Winter, we offer our Site Tour as the scheduled public tour on weekends (Saturday at NOON and 4:00pm and Sunday at 4:00pm). Tours are subject to availability; please reserve in advance to ensure your space.
PMG's public hours occasionally shift due to private events and poor weather conditions.
