- Call for Artists: Mosaic 2014"In the hands of the master mosaicist, everything takes life." - Gino Severini
Mosaic art is experiencing a renaissance as contemporary makers exploit new materials and techniques to create brilliant, relevant works of art. The American mosaic community is particularly entrepreneurial in its approach to the medium.
Shattering Expectations: Mosaic 2014 will offer a look at a group of the region's most accomplished mosaicists. Unlike many juried opportunities, Shattering Expectations will present multiple works by each chosen artist, providing a deeper sense of personal aesthetics and distinctive styles.
Philadelphia's Magic Gardens (PMG) and the Mosaic Society of Philadelphia (MSoP) have committed to designing an exhibition that will delight the anticipated 6,000-10,000 patrons who will visit PMG during the course of the show. This unusual venue will engage local, regional, and international visitors with the new identity of contemporary American mosaic.Juror Nancie Mills Pipgras is the editor of Mosaic Art NOW. She is a former president of the Society of American Mosaic Artists, has spoken about the medium in the US and UK and is a regular contributor to the French publication Mosaique magazine.
